Kings Dominion is a combination amusement and water park located near Richmond in Doswell, Virginia. The parks total market area includes approximately 19 million people of with they entertain 1.5+ million guests each year. Current regional competitors include Six Flags America and Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. They are part of the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company.
Problem
Kings Dominion needed a simple on-the-go tool which the parks director of operations could use to monitor Key Performance Indicators.
Emphasis was also placed on understanding and integrating Kings Dominions various park wide systems.
Solution
We created three main dashboards, which together, develop a strong overview of Kings Dominions long and short term operations. With these dashboards Kings Dominion can increase productivity and quality while reducing the likelihood and impact of critical system failure.
This was accomplished through extensive corporate research and frequent interviews with key personnel, culminating in a thorough understanding of the brand and its operations.
Management Dashboards
Key Performance Indicators
The KPI dashboard provides a short term analysis of the parks operations. Park attendance and overall sales metrics are updated in real time using existing infrastructure. All metrics work together to provide a layered approach for the user such as the Operating Hours and Guest Spend metrics.
Key Result Indicators
The KRI dashboard provides a long term overview of the parks operations. We focused largely on the financial and mechanical outlook for Kings Dominion as they are the most reliable indicators for the parks overall health. Other metrics include Guest and Employee happiness and Brand Equity which are updated quarterly.
Service Failure / Recovery
The Service Recovery dashboard provides the user with both a long and short term assessment. The goal is to keep an eye on the key services which are integral to maintaining the quality and productivity of the parks operations. This is where incident reports and statistics are made available to the user.
